If you follow me on Twitter, you will know that last night, Cowan & Company invited me to attend L’Oreal’s Hot Haircolour Hues for 2013.

The highlight of the presentation was Monsieur Christophe Robin!  He is an international celebrity colourist and a Beauty Expert for L’Oreal.  He is incredibly knowledgable, hilarious, and has that Parisian “je ne sais quoi.”

At the event, Christophe debuted a product that he helped developed, Féria Wild Ombré.  It is an at home system that allows you to ombré your hair and retails for $13.99CAD.

What’s ombré hair?
It’s where your roots are darker with gradual transition to lighter ends.

So here are some TIPS from Monsieur Christophe Robin on how to achieve the perfect ombré:

– Ensure that your hair is well nourished before dying.  You don’t put makeup on dry skin, so why should you do the same to your hair?  Use a hair treatment or masque, especially on the ends of your hair
– For fine hair ladies, use Féria Wild Ombré brush vertically to create the illusion of more hair
– Before you start dying, decide on where you want the colour to start.  Ideally, you want to start anywhere between your ear and chin.  Don’t start above the ear or else it will give a very harsh effect to your face.
– Section the hair and start with your bottom layer first
– Benefits of ombré is that you only need to touch-up 2-3 times a year!

What’s included in Féria Wild Ombré kit?

Gloves, Shimmering Developer Crème, Shimmering Bleaching Powder, Shimmer Lightening Crème, Conditioning Shampoo, & Expert Brush

What is an Expert Brush?
This is the key to the ombré look! The brush features fine and thick bristles that distributes less product on the top and more at the bottom. The more product that is on your hair, the lighter it will be.

In Canada, there are 5 shades available with two debuting in May* and July** 2013.

– 050: Dark to Very Dark Brown Hair**
– 060: Medium to Dark Brown Hair
– 065: Light to Medium Brown Hair*
– 070: Dark Blonde to Light Brown Hair
– 080: Light to Medium Blonde Hair

So here’s my REVIEW:
I was extremely nervous in the beginning because I hadn’t dyed my hair in 5 years and had virgin hair. I love my natural hair colour because it’s not black but a dark brown that turns lighter in the summer due to the sunlight.  So my ends are already a bit lighter than my roots. When I usually get my haircut, the stylist will ask if I dye my hair and that puts a smile on my face.  side note: I’m actually jealous of my older sister because she has light brown hair but dyes it dark.

EXPERIENCE with PRODUCTS

– Instructions were very clear on what to mix and what the consistency should be like
– Definitely a learning curve with the Expert Brush. I was afraid I was putting too much then realized I put on too little and had to re-apply. Once I got the hang of it, it made things a lot easier. So my bottom layer has a few “blotchiness”
– My only gripe with the system was the Conditioning Shampoo. My ends were still very dry after using it and I had to put on L’Oreal Precious Oils just to condition it before blowdrying. I know that I will need to use a hair masque within the next few days.

It’s definitely a shock for me but a good one.  It will take time for me to get used to.  I’ve received tons of compliments from friends and family which is definitely re-assuring.  Like I previously mentioned, there are some “blotchiness” on the bottom layers but that just shows there is a learning curve with the system.

Would I use L’Oreal Féria Wild Ombré again?
Most definitely! At least next time I know how to use the brush!
