This week, FASHION MAGAZINE asked the Beauty Panel, “Cream vs. Powder Makeup? Which one do you prefer?

Simple answer: Both

Long answer: During the summer time, people tend to sweat and get oily. So when you blot with oil sheets or use a tissue to absorb the sweat, the outer layer of your makeup is wiped off.  So the key to having your makeup lasting long is to layer powder products on top of cream.  It may seem excessive but it works.  My brides are always impressed on how long their makeup lasts after their bridal trial.

ARTIST TIP: One trick I love to do on my clients is that after doing your eyeshadow look, I put cream shadow on the centre of the lid followed by an eyeshadow. This gives dimension to the eye and will photograph beautifully, especially during a very special occasion. I tend to use this trick on Asians as they typically have monolids or very flat looking eyes. The addition of this step may seem unnecessary, but it does make a subtle difference.  When going out, I actually use this technique on myself to balance my eyes as I have one monolid and one double eye lid.

Two products that stay put and don’t crease on top of the powder are Laura Mercier Metallic Crème Eye Colour and Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows.  They are definitely my kit essentials!
