It’s been a while since I’ve done a Food Friday post and to make it up to you all, I’ve got a contest lined up! During this time away from my blog, I tried a lot of restaurants and so anxious to share my reviews.

First up, we have an oldie but a goodie…BIER MARKT! A few months ago, the fiancé and I attended an event to try Bier Markt’s new menu and newest addition to their beer line-up, Stone Brewing Co.’s. Stone IPA (India Pale Ale).

Stone IPA
Premiering in Ontario from the Stone Brewery in California, the Stone IPA delivers a bountiful hop aroma and rich hop flavours. For 18 oz., it retails for $7.30.  If you love hoppier beers and want a beer with a higher alcohol content (i.e. 6.9%), you definitely want to check out the Stone IPA.  Even though I’m not a hops fan due to its bitter taste, this beer felt a bit more crisp in comparison to other hoppier beers I’ve tried in the past.

To compliment the Stone IPA, Bier Markt’s Executive Chef created the following appetizers:

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Grisson Crostini – cured beef tenderloin, farmers cheese, pretzel crostini, grainy mustard & mostarda (Note: to accommodate for our dietary restrictions, the beef tenderloin was replaced with sliced beet)

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Bacon Fat Popcorn – double smoked bacon, olive oil popped corn, Navajo rub, pecorino, herbs (Note: to accommodate for our dietary restrictions, no bacon was used.)

Lobster Roll

Warm Lobster Rolls – butter poached lobster tails, Savoy cabbage slaw, buttermilk vinaigrette, top split roll

As always, everything was quite delicious with my favourite being the Warm Lobster Rolls for obvious reasons.  I’m not a big fan of when Lobster Rolls are drenched in mayo and served cold…I mean…you can’t even truly appreciate the star of the dish.  So it was refreshing to see Chef Michael Cipollo honour the lobster by butter poaching it and serving it with such simple ingredients on top of a toasted roll.

If you haven’t been to Bier Markt lately, you definitely want to check out their new menu that launched in February.  The concept for this menu was a European-brasserie style twist to some North America’s most popular dishes:

  • Pretzel Calamari – pretzel crusted, fried crisp, harissa aioli, house remoulade, fresh lemon. $13
  • Gouda Bombs – panko crusted smoked gouda, fried crisp, tomato
  • White Cheddar Dip – Ontario smoked white cheddar, charred pepper, roast corn, green onions. $12
  • Dunkel Duck Wings – slow braised duck drumettes, fried crisp, dry spice rubbed, lingonberry hot sauce, gold
  • Chicken & Sweet Pea Penne – grilled chicken breast, roasted red pepper, shiitake mushrooms, julienne leeks, shaved grana padano, ricotta cheese, toasted walnuts. $19
  • Smoked Markt Back Ribs – spice-rubbed, 6-hour smoked full rack, golden BBQ sauce, Markt frites, red cabbage & caraway slaw. $28 including: jam. $12 BBQ sauce. $14

Reading the descriptions to all those delicious new items, doesn’t it make you want to sink your teeth into them?  Well, Cowan & Company and Bier Markt has decided to lend you a helping hand.  They have teamed up with me to offer 1 lucky reader with a $50 Gift Card to experience their new menu items and the Stone IPA at Bier Markt.
